The University of Southern Denmark (SDU)

The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is a leading institution with over 27,000 students and 3,800 staff.

Within SDU, the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, housed in the Faculty of Health Sciences, stands out for its excellence. Renowned internationally, the department has consistently ranked among the top sports science departments since 2016 by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

Their research primarily focuses on physical activity for health and well-being.

Led by Professor Paolo Caserotti, the Centre for Active and Healthy Ageing (CAHA) is at the forefront of translational and basic research dedicated to preventing functional loss in older adults and promoting independent living.

CAHA collaborates extensively with various stakeholders, including healthcare providers, municipalities, and older adult organizations, and has secured significant national and international funding for its initiatives.

CAHA’s vision aligns seamlessly with EUAPPTIVE’s goals, aiming to shift the perception of older adults from being viewed solely as a medical burden to individuals capable of active participation in society.

By contributing its expertise to EUAPPTIVE, CAHA strives to drive a paradigm shift in how society perceives and engages with ageing populations.

As a partner, SDU will spearhead WP2 – Research and Challenge Design, leveraging its scientific knowledge in data collection, focus group implementation, data analysis, and interpretation.

Additionally, SDU will provide invaluable insights into designing the challenge program and formulating guidelines for urban physical activity promotion.
