EUAPPTIVE - About Us
European Active Ageing Challenge
The European Active Ageing Challenge – EUAPPTIVE is a project funded by the European Union under the Erasmus Sport 2023 call. This 24-month project led by the Sport Innovation Hub, Spain, is focused on the promotion of health-enhancing physical activity and healthy lifestyle for the elderly, digitalisation and innovative practices and inclusion. It aims to contribute to active ageing and physical activity among the European elderly population through innovative strategies at the municipality level to:
- Contribute to the scientific knowledge on active ageing promotion strategies, good practices and health benefits through extensive research and data collection;
- Promote new and engageable physical activity promotion strategies tailor-made for European Municipalities;
- Increase the digital skills and knowledge of European citizens by engaging and guiding them in the practical use of a mobile APP;
- Raise awareness on the need for active ageing strategies and increase the engagement and participation of the European elderly population in physical activity through the creation of an immersive competitive physical activity challenge; and
- Foster a common sense of belonging and companionship among European citizens, particularly senior citizens, through friendly competition in a physical activity-based challenge.
Addressing the Needs
The EUAPPTIVE project addresses the critical need to encourage active ageing and improve the health of Europe’s ageing population.
With a significant proportion of the EU population aged 65 and above, and physical activity levels dropping with age, there is an urgent need to promote healthy behaviours and social interaction among older persons.
EUAPPTIVE strives to stimulate physical activity and foster social connection, leveraging digital technology to encourage older individuals to have active, fulfilling lives.
Impact of the EUAPPTIVE Project
The EUAPPTIVE project aims to make a significant and long-term impact on the lives of the European population by promoting active ageing and physical exercise through an innovative approach. EUAPPTIVE seeks to positively influence the following areas through the use of technology, community participation, and evidence-based strategies:
- Health and Well-Being: increase the general health levels and well-being among elders throughout Europe by encouraging regular physical activity. Individuals who exercise regularly have a lower chance of developing chronic illnesses, better mental health, and a higher quality of life.
- Social Inclusion: through community-based initiatives and the interactive challenge component, this project fosters social connections and combats social isolation among older adults giving them the opportunity to interact with one another and take part in group activities.
- Digital Literacy: by providing practical instruction on how to use the project’s mobile application, the project aims to improve the digital literacy of the silver population in Europe. The project seeks to close the digital gap and advance digital inclusion by giving older adults the confidence to use digital platforms.
- Municipal Engagement: through collaborating with European municipalities, EUAPPTIVE hopes to encourage active ageing projects at the local level. Municipalities can encourage their population to live more active lifestyles by implementing an interactive challenge in community activities.
- Research and Knowledge: Our project seeks to provide a significant contribution to the scientific understanding of active ageing promotion strategies and best practices through rigorous research and data collection initiatives. The project intends to inform future activities and policies targeted at promoting healthy ageing throughout Europe by producing new information and evidence.
