EU ACTIVE AGEING CHALLENGE: Promoting Physical Activity for Older Adults

As we age, staying active is one of the most effective ways to maintain health, mobility, and independence. Yet, many older adults face barriers to regular physical activity, including accessibility, motivation, and digital literacy challenges. To address these issues, we are excited to introduce the EU ACTIVE AGEING CHALLENGE, a dynamic initiative designed to support and inspire older adults to embrace an active lifestyle through engaging digital solutions.

What is the EU ACTIVE AGEING CHALLENGE?

The EU ACTIVE AGEING CHALLENGE is a key initiative of the EUAPPTIVE project, a European Commission-funded effort aimed at increasing physical activity among community-dwelling older adults through digital interventions. This challenge encourages older individuals to participate in a structured, accessible, and motivating programme that leverages technology to promote healthy ageing.

Key Features of the Challenge:

  • Personalised Physical Activity Plans – Tailored to individual needs, ensuring that participants can engage at their own pace and ability levels.
  • Digital Tools for Engagement – Participants can access user-friendly mobile applications and wearables to track their progress and stay motivated.
  • Community Support and Motivation – The challenge fosters social interaction, allowing older adults to connect, share experiences, and encourage each other.
  • Evidence-Based Approach – The challenge builds on comprehensive research, including market and literature reviews, as well as focus group insights from Denmark, Portugal, and Spain.
